This stage includes
1. Physical inspection of film
2. Assess and collect data on age of film, storage conditions –
temperature, relative humidity etc
3. Assess the damage in terms of physical dimensions and conditions
such as,
• Image Vibrations
• Mould
• Flicker
• Missing frames
• Scene touch-up
• Scratch removal
• Tear repair
• Grain reduction / Enhancement
• Dirt / Dust removal
• Color balancing
• Dye fade correction
• Frame re-registration
• Stabilization
• Noise
• Density variations
• De-graining
4. Film condition in terms of winding (windable/unwindable), moisture
marks (ferrotyping), container rust
5. Film decomposing level, hydrolysis stage, Vinegar syndrome etc
The result of this stage is a detailed report on the problem involved in the project. As our team of experts work on the possible solution on a case to case basis the client is presented with a detailed report of the problem. The feedback of this excercise forms the foundation for the next stage.
